January Quilt at the Ukiah Library

Travis Ruins Another Perfect
Dinner Party
2005

by Laura Fogg

Laura made this quilt for a contest that was centered around creating a new quilt from an old favorite pattern.... "Dresden Plate". I visualized the plates in the Japanese "Imari" pattern, which led to the creation of a perfect table set for an elegant sushi dinner. One idea led to another, and I could not rest until I had created several kinds of sushi out of rubber shelf liner and ribbons. I robbed my kitchen drawers of my entire collection of chopsticks. The idea of slovenly, sushi-hating Travis showing up with his Mc Donalds burger, fries and super-sized Coke came at the last minute in response to my need to alter the symmetrical perfection of the table.

This quilt won a blue ribbon for "best use of embellishment" at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in 2006, and was also juried into the International Quilters Association show in Houston. It will soon be on its way to the American Quilters Association Show in Paducah, KY
